The Short Version
Post like the people you are posting about can read it. Most of the time, they can.
What Is Not Allowed
Harassment and bullying
Do not target, threaten, mock, follow around or gang up on anyone. This includes doing it through mentions, through comments on someone else's post, or through a group of accounts. Repeated unwanted contact after someone has blocked you or asked you to stop is harassment.
Hate speech
Do not attack people for their caste, religion, region, language, gender, sexuality, disability, or any other part of who they are. Slurs are not allowed even as jokes.
Sexual content
No nudity, no sexual content, and nothing sexualising anyone. All sexually explicit content of any kind is strictly prohibited and will be removed.
Any content involving or sexualising a minor is treated with zero tolerance — it will be removed immediately, the account permanently disabled, and reported to the authorities.
Violence and self-harm
Do not threaten violence, glorify it, or encourage anyone to harm themselves or others. Do not post dangerous challenges.
If you are struggling, please talk to someone — your institute's counsellor, someone you trust, or the Tele-MANAS helpline on 14416, which is free and available in many Indian languages.
Exam integrity
Do not post exam papers, question papers before an exam, answer keys, or anything meant to help anyone cheat. Do not offer to write someone else's assignment or take an assessment for them. This one matters more here than on a general social app — you are all sitting the same exams.
Impersonation
Do not pretend to be another student, a teacher, a member of staff, your institute, or Alvara. Do not use someone else's photo as your own.
Other people's private information
Do not post someone's phone number, address, marks, attendance, medical details, family details or photographs without their permission. Screenshots of someone else's records count.
Campus safety
Do not post anything that could put people on campus at risk — hoax threats, fake emergencies, or information that helps someone get somewhere they should not be.
Spam and selling
Do not post advertising, referral links, repeated identical posts, or bulk friend requests. Do not sell things here.
Anything illegal
If it is against the law, it is against these rules.
What Happens If You Break Them
We look at what happened and how serious it was, not just the words. Roughly, in order:
Removal
The post or comment is taken down. You will still see it yourself, marked as removed by Alvara, so you know what happened.
Restriction
Your access to the network is limited for a period. Your academic access to the app is not affected.
Suspension
Your access to the network is stopped.
Permanent removal
And where the law requires it, a report to the authorities.
Serious violations. Sexual content involving a minor, credible threats of violence, and content that puts people on campus in danger are removed immediately and permanently without prior warning.
Your academic account is separate. Breaking these rules affects your access to Alvara Private Network. It does not affect your attendance, timetable, library account, or campus records. Any institute disciplinary action is determined independently by your institute.
Reporting Something
Use the report option on any post or comment. Tell us which category it falls into, and add a note if it helps.
- We aim to review reports within 72 hours.
- To review a report we have to read what was reported. Only Alvara sees it — your institute does not.
- Reporting is not visible to the person you reported. They are not told who reported them.
- Reporting the same thing repeatedly does not make it move faster.
- If something is an emergency — someone is in immediate danger — do not wait for us. Contact your institute, or the police on 112.
If You Think We Got It Wrong
Write to support@alvara.education with what was removed and why you think it should not have been. A person will look at it again.
We would rather correct a mistake than defend one.
Blocking and Deactivating
- Block someone and you disappear for each other. One current exception: if someone you have blocked mentions you in a comment, you may still get a notification about it. We intend to change this.
- Deactivate your profile at any time from Connection Settings. Nothing is deleted and you can reactivate it whenever you want.
- Delete your network data from the same place. You get 30 days to change your mind, and the app shows you the exact date.
One More Thing
Your institute cannot see anything you post here, and neither can it see who you are connected with. That is deliberate. It also means we are the only ones looking — so if something here is wrong, tell us.
